I love summer with its easy, breezy style of living.
For me, summer has always been full of promise and all things magical. I particularly love summer nights when mysterious dreams and misguided adventures come quick and without warning under a starlit sky.
One recent evening, I found my way to Jeffrey Park to watch the delightful dance of fireflies filling the meadow with twinkling orbs under a full moon.
And because fireflies only happen once a year, and less and less due to fertilizers/pesticides, I couldn’t wait to catch the evening show. But true to the unpredictable moods of a summer night, this event was soon eclipsed by a different sort of magic.
And if bats and bugs weren’t entertaining enough, the low whistle of a faraway train and the seductive calls of two Barred Owls cast an eerie spell over the evening’s already dreamy mood.
Just as the meadow began to sparkle, however, another invasion of what appeared to be a wayward band of Peter Pan’s lost boys soared down a lamp-lit driveway on their bikes.
And as any lost boy would do, they quickly abandoned two-wheels for the high-flying, weightlessness of a swing set.
The meadow was now filling with fireflies and the echoes of young explorers playing under the mysterious veil of darkness. |
All acorns tops used in the creation of these necklaces were lovingly gathered from the floor of Jeffrey Woods during walks that inspired The Magic of Jeffrey Woods' Blogs. For more information visit ~
